James Dondero, the co-owner and chief operating officer of Highland Capital Management, pronounced that his company had given a $1 million donation to The Family Place, Dallas’ leading provider of support to victims of family violence in the US. The grant is part of $ 2.8 million required for The Family Place to complete its Legacy Campaign.
James Dondero made the announcement during the 21st yearly Texas Trailblazer Honors, a luncheon session held at the Dallas-based Hilton Anatole hotel.
According to Mr. Dondero, the grant will be administered through Highland’s philanthropic arm, Highland Dallas Foundation. Mr. Dondero’s grant will match any funds accumulated for Legacy Campaign from now until April 2017. Currently, The Family Place has accumulated an extra $200,000 million toward the capital campaign and will match the $100,000 grant as thanks for Highland Capital. With the deficit of $2.8 million to reach the campaign’s target of $16.5 million, the donation from Highlands will help complete the campaign successfully.
Mr. Dondero noted that the grant calls upon Mike Rawling and David Brown, Dallas Mayor, and Police Chief respectively to help the community in solving life-threatening issues in Dallas.
The Family Place initiative funds the construction of a counseling center for victims of family violence in Dallas. Designed by leading architecture, the new Dallas counseling center will be named in honor of Ann Moody. The facility will include a dispensary, call center, counseling rooms, and several emergency shelter bedrooms for adults and children.
The facility is expected to serve over 2,000 victims yearly through emergency housing since The Family Space’s existing facility functions at capacity. Moreover, the new counseling facility will have an animal shelter for victims that will come along with their beloved pets.
